Preventing halitosis (bad breath) is more than just making sure you’re properly brushing and flossing every day. Bacteria below the gumline and health issues such as heartburn can also contribute to the unpleasant aroma emanating from the mouth. Thankfully, there are several to deal with this, beyond brushing and flossing.
For example, your mouth may not be producing sufficient saliva. Having a dry mouth can be a major cause of halitosis. Hence, you’ll want to make sure that you’re producing enough saliva. Consider chewing sugar-free gum as it will boost saliva flow and help with washing away germs that may be causing bad breath.
What are you eating and if so, are you eating regularly? Not eating regularly will cause stomach acid build-up, leading to foul breath. Foods such as carrots and apples may also help with keeping your breath pleasant.
Of course, don’t forget about the importance of visiting your holistic dentist. Chronic bad breath despite regular brushing and flossing may signal something more.
