The Hidden Danger of Amalgam Fillings – Increased Mercury Levels in Pregnant Women

Assure A Smile: Increased Mercury Levels in Pregnant Women

The International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine (IABDM) has raised the alarm on a troubling connection between amalgam dental fillings and increased mercury levels in pregnant women.

Mercury Exposure from Dental Amalgams Among Pregnant Women in the U.S

The recent study titled “Estimated mercury vapor exposure from amalgams among American pregnant women” has unearthed startling insights related to mercury exposure amongst pregnant women in the United States resulting from dental amalgams. Published in the journal ‘Human and Experimental Toxicology’, the research utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 2015-2020 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to analyze mercury exposure in more than 1.6 million expecting mothers.

The study showed that roughly 36% of the pregnant subjects had at least one dental amalgam. This resulted in higher median daily urinary mercury excretion rates compared to their amalgam-free counterparts. Alarmingly, a significant number of these women were exposed to mercury amounts exceeding the safety thresholds set by regulatory bodies such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California EPA.

This latest evidence triggers an urgent need to reassess the usage of dental amalgams, especially in susceptible populations like pregnant women and their unborn children. It also emphasizes the need for comprehensive awareness among healthcare professionals and the general public about the potential risks associated with mercury exposure from these fillings.
