Thanksgiving is this Thursday, bringing with it plenty to be thankful for and tons of food to eat. While the holiday is about being thankful for many different things including having healthy teeth, Thanksgiving food can wreak havoc on your oral health. Here are a few tips to keep your mouth in good shape.
Eat cookies and cupcakes in moderation. These foods are often high in sugar, which can lead to bacteria and cause tooth decay. This also goes for soda and the popular eggnog. Caramel corn is a nice holiday snack with few calories but the caramel can stick to the teeth while the kernels can lodge themselves in teeth and potentially pull fillings out.
This isn’t to say that you shouldn’t enjoy some homemade cookies and cupcakes, it’s about doing so in moderation. One easy to reduce the damage to the teeth is to sip plenty of water throughout the day, which will help with washing away food particles and reducing the chances of bacteria formation.
