International Coffee Day is this Sunday, September 29. While millions of people drink coffee every day, this much-beloved beverage can wreak havoc on the teeth. With a couple of tips, you can still enjoy some coffee and protect your smile.
For starters, make sure to rinse with fluoride-free water after drinking coffee. This will help with neutralizing the coffee’s acidity and it can also help with avoiding the stains that happen from drinking lots of coffee. It’s also important to brush after drinking coffee but don’t do it immediately as this can damage the sensitive enamel. Instead, wait for an hour and then thoroughly give your pearly whites the cleaning they deserve.
Speaking of cleaning, getting a regular dental cleaning is important but even more so if you drink coffee every day. A dental cleaning will keep the teeth and gums in a healthy condition while fighting the effects of the acidity caused by coffee.
Be very careful if you like to squeeze a lemon into the coffee as again, the acidity will wear down your teeth enamel. The more enamel that gets worn down, the more sensitive your teeth will become.
