A recent PLOS Medicine study seeking to evaluate the effect of a healthy diet on obesity and whether normal weight can compensate for the risks associated with a not so healthy diet presented some interesting findings. Among them, it reinforced just how much what you consume affects health and well-being.
In the context of the study, a healthy diet was defined as one containing plenty of produce, healthy fats, whole grains, herbs, and nuts. The study used data from more than 70,000 adults across two decades. Those that did not follow the aforementioned diet showed greater mortality risk despite having a normal weight.
Diet and how it plays a pivotal role in oral health is something we’ve discussed before. Analysis shows that lifestyle modifications alone may be the solution to preventing gum disease from developing. When consuming diets rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, vitamins C and D, antioxidants, and fiber, these improvements include dramatically reducing sugar and other processed carbohydrates.
