Nothing says confidence quite like a bright and straight smile. But, life can throw the occasional curveball to knock those perfect teeth right off their track. For individuals with lackluster smiles due to crooked, misaligned, jagged or imperfect teeth – our Miami veneers can help.
These thin, custom-molded shells fit over the surface of teeth to boost their appearance, eliminating some of the most common smile complaints. Because they are made from porcelain, veneers provide the same resilience as healthy tooth enamel to ensure the root underneath remains healthy.
The Pros of Porcelain Veneers
If you suffer from discoloration due to root canal and permanent stains due to excessive fluoride exposure, you’re already a prime candidate for veneers at Assure A Smile. In some cases, in-office whitening isn’t enough to eradicate severe discoloring, but porcelain veneers completely cover the surface for a whole new look. Many patients see veneers as the clear path to a perfect smile, and it’s no surprise veneers are a common procedure in Hollywood where maintaining pearly whites is a must.
Other issues that veneers eradicate include worn surfaces, chipped or broken teeth, misalignment, uneven or irregular shaping and gaping. Not only can veneers help enhance your appearance, they may also eliminate pain from dentin exposure due to heavy enamel wear. Further, jagged edges that might be catching and cutting the soft tissues within in your mouth are covered and sealed for a more comfortable fit.
How Do Veneers Work?
At Assure A Smile, we work hard to make your veneer placement as quick and pain-free as possible. We also work with each patient to ensure coloring and style is to their liking before permanently securing veneers to the teeth.
The first step in the veneer process is your consultation. After the initial appointment to discuss individual concerns and goals, we’ll schedule you for two more appointments to complete the process.
The first appointment involves shaving down the tooth surface, or enamel, to make room for your new veneers. Shaving down the enamel in as little as .5 to .7 millimeters allows for proper placement that is both natural and comfortable. If necessary, a deeper trim would equate to about 1.5 millimeters, often necessary in patients who require thicker veneers that can mask any underlying stains. We take extreme caution during this process to avoid excessive dentin exposure, as this may lessen the lifetime of your veneers.
After trimming the teeth, Dr. Herrmann takes impressions used to mold your new veneers. Using impression putty, we fill this thick paste into a tray which is then set in the mouth for just a few minutes. We send your impressions to a top-rated laboratory where the porcelain fittings are created. Most often, it takes about two weeks for the final product to reach our office. Because shaved teeth aren’t the most beautiful sight, we send each patient home with temporary veneers bonded to the teeth. Temporaries also help conceal and protect exposed dentin, minimizing discomfort and bacteria during the waiting period.
At your final appointment, we bond your veneers into place after a close inspection. We may need to trim certain areas to make sure positioning is perfect so that you’re pleased with the final appearance. We’ll also confirm that the shade is up to your satisfaction.
Then, we remove your temporaries to clean and polish your teeth. This step is essential for creating a healthy, long-lasting environment for the veneers to thrive. Finally, we use a clear bonding agent on the surface of your teeth to prepare them for the cement-lined implants. In order to cure the veneers into place, Dr. Herrmann employs a blue light to activate the chemicals and accelerate the sealing process.
Common Questions and Concerns
Most of our patients prefer a local anesthetic during the shaving and placement processes. This helps eliminate pain or discomfort, particularly for patients who are naturally sensitive to cold sensations from water sprays.
The shade of your veneers largely depends on personal preference, but we use a guide to show you which color matches your existing teeth best. If you’re having most of your visible teeth covered with veneers, you can opt to go whiter since existing teeth won’t show when speaking or smiling. If you’re only covering the front two teeth, we often recommend patients select the shade that’s closest to their natural coloring. However, we can schedule you for an in-office whitening treatment to ensure the best match regardless of your color choice.
Though rare, you may not require a dental shaving and thus the veneers can be applied in a single session without the need for temporary implants. Dr. Herrmann will discuss the safest route that will help you achieve the most aesthetically-pleasing results at your initial consultation.
During the trimming process, we may also remove areas of decay to make room for your new veneers. This also keeps the teeth healthy after the porcelain is sealed overtop.
Veneers can be placed over existing composites, but we typically recommend a removal and replacement in order to reach optimal outcomes.
After the veneers are cemented onto the teeth, you can go about your life as normal. However, we do recommend being slightly cautious during the first few hours following the procedure as your mouth may be sensitive to chewing. We also recommend being careful with your temporaries, as the bond is non-permanent. Avoid hard foods, smoking and dark-colored drinks while you have temporaries in place.
