80% of America’s Pre-Packaged Foods Are Toxic
In America, consumers do not think twice about reaching for a box of Froot Loops or a six-pack of Mountain Dew soda. In other countries, however, such items are not available for purchase due to the toxic nature of their ingredients. It’s not just cereal and soda that contain controversial and dangerous ingredients, however. According to authors of a new book titled Rich Food, Poor Food, nearly 80% of America’s pre-packaged foods are banned in other countries around the world.
Freedom of Choice: Lessons Learned from Portland’s Fluoride-Free Victory
At the end of 2012, Portland city council members met behind closed doors in an attempt to pass a public water fluoridation mandate. When word of the council’s plan leaked, citizens sprang into action, collecting an unprecedented 400,000+ signatures to bring the controversial decision to the public for a vote. Six months have passed since that time, and we're happy to announce that the residents of Portland have successfully voted to keep public water free of fluoride. So, what can we learn about Portland’s recent underdog victory against the pro-fluoride lobby?
Fluoridegate: Watch the Inside Story of Water Fluoridation
Water fluoridation has been hailed as one of the greatest achievements in public health of the 20th century, particularly in the fight against tooth decay and oral disease. However, an ever-growing body of research indicates that fluoride accumulates in the body and causes serious health issues. As scientists and health professionals increasingly warn Americans about the potentially toxic side effects of fluoride ingestion, one is left to wonder: Why is fluoride being added to our drinking water?
Fluoridegate—An American Tragedy explores this looming question, citing original research findings from as early as the 1950s that describe the dangerous side effects of fluoride exposure. Produced and directed by former President of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT), Dr. David Kennedy, Fluoridegate takes an uncensored look at the sordid history of water fluoridation programs and their true impact on public health.
Actor Ed Begley Jr. Calls for Fluoride Choice, Not Mandate
The fluoride-free dentistry movement has recently gained some star power, as actor and environmental advocate Ed Begley Jr. released a new Public Service Announcement (PSA), speaking out against the dated and potentially dangerous practice. The PSA was released in conjunction with the Fluoride Action Network, a leading advocacy group that aims to spread awareness for the toxicity of fluoride among citizens, scientists, and policymakers.
Fluoride Free Victory: Israel Lifts Mandatory Water Fluoridation
The fluoride free movement continues to see unprecedented momentum in 2013 as Israel announces the phase-out of public water fluoridation requirements. First put into action in 2002, Israel’s fluoridation mandate formerly required all municipalities to treat public water with fluoride. That mandate will be lifted within a year, however, empowering Israeli municipalities to reduce exposure to the potentially toxic mineral by going fluoride free.
Fluoride-Free Movement Sees Unprecedented Momentum in 2013
The beginning of 2013 has been an eventful and progressive time for the fluoride-free water movement. As of March, at least 9 new communities have put an end to public water fluoridation. Elimination of these programs means an additional 372,626 Americans will be protected from the potentially toxic side effects of fluoride exposure, according to statistics gathered by the Fluoride Action Network.
Does Gluten Cause Weight Gain?
Research published in the January 2013 Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry explains that the major factor of obesity is not calories, but gluten. It says that weight gain from wheat consumption isn’t from the calories, but from the gluten proteins that disrupt the endocrine and exocrine systems in the body and alters metabolism causing weight gain.
How to Avoid Processed Foods
Processed foods are those that are prepared with the intention of being easy to consume. They are more convenient, longer lasting, and sometimes better tasting than 100% natural foods. However, a team of Dutch scientists recently produced a study indicating that processed foods may double your risk of developing colon cancer. At Harvard Medical School, another team demonstrated that processed foods that are rich in high-fructose corn syrup might also cause cancer, as well as obesity and type II diabetes. As the study of processed food and well-being continues, health professionals worldwide are beginning to warn consumers to pay close attention to the ingredients in the foods they eat.
